Police are probing a simple larceny which occurred at Takatu Backdam, Puruni Main Road at about 11:00hrs on Friday.
According to a statement from the police, a 33- year-old gold miner reported to the Bartica Police Station that he was robbed of a quantity of raw gold by nine persons, inclusive of a female.
However, News Room was reliably informed that when ranks visited the scene to conduct investigations, it was discovered that the alleged thieves are actually employees of the miner who claimed that they were not paid. It is unclear whether the workers admitted to the crime.
At the scene, ranks also found an unlicensed single barrel shotgun belonging to the miner.
As a result, the miner was also arrested.
Investigations are in progress.
