Priyanna Ramdhani is CAREBACO U-19 champion

Guyana’s Priyanna Ramdhani copped two gold medals on Sunday evening as action in the Caribbean International and Regional Junior and Senior Badminton Championships continued in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Playing at the Ring Sports Center in Ringweg Noord, Ramdhani earned the title of Badminton World Federation’s CAREBACO Under-19 Junior Champion 2018 when she won both the Girls Singles and Girls Doubles finals in front of a large crowd.

 

“This is the first time a Guyanese player have ever won this International championship and we are extremely happy that Priyanna made history being only 16 years old and having two more years in this event,” the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) said in a statement.

 

The evening started out for the Guyanese player with the Girls Singles final where defeated the number one seeded player in the tournament, Chequeda DeBoulet of Trinidad and Tobago, 21-10, 21-4 to take the title.

 

She then went on later in the evening playing in the Girls Doubles final with DeBoulet, defeating the top Suriname pair of Imani Mangroe and Faith Sariman 21-13, 21-17.

 

“The GBA is extremely delighted with our results in the BWF Under-19 Championships and congratulates the players that represented us and played their utmost best,” the GBA added.

 

The BWF CAREBACO Senior International Championships, which will also be held in Suriname, starts on Tuesday (August 21) and the players representing Guyana are Narayan Ramdhani, Jonathan Mangra, Darrell Carpenay, Akili Haynes, Tyrese Jeffrey and Priyanna Ramdhani.
