In a ‘gate to pole’ performance, Vera’s Finally of the Jumbo Jet Racing Stables made a successful defence of its Guyana Cup title at the 12th annual event at the Rising Sun Turf Club on Sunday.

After winning the 2017 event, Vera’s Finally was a hot favourite in the feature C Class and Lower race and with Jockey Colin Ross on the saddle, the crowd puller did not disappoint.

The 1600m event produced a closely fought contest, but in the end it was Ross’ experience and Vera’s Finally’s power down the homestretch that proved the difference.

The victory meant the Jumbo Jet Racing Stables carted off the day’s top purse of $2 million.

TNT of the Nand Persaud Racing Stables took second, followed by Isn’t She Charming of the Cheefoon Racing Stables and Goodwill Boy of the Jagdeo Stables.
