Who will be the fastest on the Drag strip at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club organised King of the Strip III billed for Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit?

One team that is hoping to leave another lasting impression on the track is Shawn Persaud and his team of Toyota Caldina drivers, which includes himself, his son Damien and Neil Higgins and Randel Daby, who makes a return with his Toyota Supra.

News Room Sport visited Persaud at his Sara Johanna, East Bank Demerara, workshop on Wednesday (August 22), where he was steadfast in preparation.

“All of them almost ready; we are just doing some finishing touches on the Supra. My car is ready, my son’s car is ready and we have Neil’s car where (we) are finishing up the engine,” Persaud explained.

He added, “It is good to know people [competitors] are coming, but they are already behind so let’s hope they get it right this time, so at least we get competition.”

Daby’s Toyota Supra will be making a return after a three-year absence on the track.

Persaud is banking on it running seven-seconds and hopefully give a serious challenge to the kings of the strip, Team Mohamed’s powerful Nissan GT-R, which has a best of 7.527s set in April of this year.

While the Surinamese are confirmed to make the trip across the border, Barbados and Trinidad will not be attending, but Persaud wants his fellow competitors to ensure Guyana remains on top.

The scorching action gets underway at 09:00h, and admission to the venue is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children.
