KFC Guyana and the Petra Organisation have partnered to host an inaugural Goodwill Football Tournament in Guyana, which will run from December 16 -23, with three playing days. This was unveiled at the launch on Thursday (August 23) at the KFC branch on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.

It was there that Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, explained the tournament was conceptualised since last year, but a lack of support hampered its kick-off. According to Mendonca, the tournament will help to give an indication as to where Guyana stands with respect to some of its regional counterparts.

Madanna Nelson, Hinck Street Store Manager, expounded that such a tournament aligns with the company’s objective of enhancing community development and they are most elated to be joining forces with Petra.

The tournament will cater for Under-18 Boys and the Guyana Football Federation’s President, Wayne Forde, believes it falls neatly into their endeavours to develop school football nationwide.

More so, with the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship scheduled for November 1-21 in Florida, Forde explained, “in a matter of weeks time, we will be launching tournaments within that age range to cater for the tournament, but based on our Elite League we have a good quality of young players.”

The tournament will include 2017 Trinidad and Tobago South Zone School champs, Shiva Boys Hindu College, Annai Secondary and two other teams to be announced in due course by the organisers.
