Police Headquarters said the Police Constable was in a Route 42 minibus in the vicinity of the Central Fire Station when he heard screams of “thief” around 05:50hrs Saturday.

He immediately saw the suspects, one of whom he knew as a “known character” fleeing the scene and joined a waiting motorcar.

The policeman followed the motorcar which stopped in Leopold Street, Charlestown where he observed the perpetrators proceeded inside a house.

The cop then went to the Brickdam Police Station for backup, and he along with other ranks returned to the house where only the “known character” was present.
