He immediately saw the suspects, one of whom he knew as a “known character” fleeing the scene and joined a waiting motorcar.

The policeman followed the motorcar which stopped in Leopold Street, Charlestown where he observed the perpetrators proceeded inside a house.

The cop then went to the Brickdam Police Station for backup, and he along with other ranks returned to the house where only the “known character” was present.

In the process of arresting him, the suspect grabbed the policeman’s service weapon in an attempt to disarm him but was shot to his upper right thigh.

The suspect was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and is receiving treatment under guard. The other suspect was later arrested when he went to visit his accomplice at the hospital.

The victim has since received medical attention. Police are continuing their investigation.
