The community of Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is in a state of shock after a 26-year-old mother allegedly killed her youngest child.

Brenda Ferreira allegedly murdered her three-year-old son because she had a dream she was going to die and wanted her favourite child to be with her in the afterlife.

Ramdeo Ferreira was stabbed to his neck and back; he was discovered by police in an unconscious state on a bed at his Lot 585 15th Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Saturday morning.

The toddler was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical treatment but the child succumbed to his injuries.

Neighbours recalled seeing the mother running after the little boy, armed with a knife around 09:45hrs.

Moments later, the woman’s older son, who is four-years-old, started screaming and ran out of the yard to inform his father’s sister who lived nearby.

The child’s father lost his job following the closure of the Enmore Sugar Estate and now works at a sawmill company. He was not at home at the time of the incident.

Neighbours say the woman would often mistreat her children and at one point, they contacted the Child Care and Protection Agency but when officials arrived, no one was home and the officials never returned.
The mother was taken into custody and police headquarters say she is cooperating with investigators.
