23-Y-0 killed by intoxicated Cop driving Police vehicle

A Police Constable is under close arrest following the death of 23-year-old Akemo Anthony who was struck off his motorcycle on Saturday evening on the Nelson Mandela Public Road in the vicinity of Back Circle, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters revealed that at the time of the accident, the Cop was driving the Police Force minibus – PVV 4652 – and was under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Police release, at around 23:40hrs, the Policeman was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of Mandela Avenue while Anthony was riding in the opposite direction on motorcycle CJ 511.

Police Headquarters noted that Anthony turned north into the path of the minibus in an attempt to cross into Back Circle Street but because of the short distance, the bus collided with the motorcycle.

As a result of the impact, Anthony fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about his body; he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
