Two dead in Mahaicony accident
The driver of a car and a female have been confirmed dead following an accident on Zealand, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara public road Monday afternoon.
Dead are the driver, Michael ‘Aubrey’ Ross of Queenstown, Corriverton, Corentyne and 17-year-old Jennifer Park of lot 25 Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Injured are Kevin Madray and 23-year-old Judy Park, a nurse of Manchester Village. She is also the sister of the teenager who died.
An eyewitness told News Room that a spare wheel was on the car; the driver reportedly overtook a Combine, lost control and ended up in the trench at around 12:30hrs.
Scores of persons are at the scene and are assisting in removing the persons from the submerged car.
Police subsequently revealed in a statement that the driver attempted to overtake a low-bed lorry which was transporting a heavy-duty machinery but was forced to pull north since another vehicle was quickly approaching from the opposite direction.
In the process, the car collided with the right side of the lorry, flipped several times and ended up in a northern trench.
