Berbice man dies after hit by speeding fire truck
A Berbice man was Sunday killed after he was hit down by a speeding fire truck.
Police said they are investigating the accident which occurred about 22:30hrs Sunday on the # 72 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is MahendraHaricharran, 33, of # 71 Village, Corentyne.
Police reported that the fire tender, PVV 2027, which is based at the Skeldon Fire Station, was responding to a fire at # 51 Village when it collided withHaricahrran, who was crossing the road from west to east.
The fire tender was being driven by a 33-year-old fireman of Budhan Housing Scheme, West Canje, Berbice.
Haricharranpedestrian was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the fire tender, who has passed a breathalyzer test, is in custody assisting the investigation.
