Cop kills cyclist in West Coast accident
A Deputy Superintendent of Police has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of a 64-year-old man in a road accident on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) last night.
The Guyana Police Force said the officer was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Dead is Conrad Alleyne of Hague, WCD.
The cop, who is stationed in ‘D’ Division, was driving motorcar PTT 992 heading east along the northern side of the Boerasirie Bridge, when he felt an impact.
Upon investigating the officer saw the pedal cyclist lying on the bridge with injuries about his body, police headquarters said in a statement.
The elderly man was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in a semi-conscious condition, treated and referred to the Georgetown Hospital but succumbed on his way. The body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the officer found that he was above the legal limit.
