A 23-year-old man is now dead and another in police custody after a misunderstanding turned violent on Thursday afternoon.
Roger Allen, a labourer, was stabbed to his chest by 20-year-old Matthew Parks during an altercation at D’Urban and Chapel streets, Lodge. Both men reside at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown.
Allen’s aunt said she last saw her nephew earlier on Thursday. She was later told of the altercation which occurred in front of a Mini Mart at D’Urban and Chapel streets.
“He was in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital and he died about 1 am,” she disclosed.
According to the police, Allen visited the Mini Mart earlier on Thursday and was involved in an altercation with Parks who works at the shop.
It is alleged that at about 17:00hrs Parks exited his workplace and was confronted by Allen who was reportedly armed with a piece of wood and a knife.
A scuffle ensued and both men received injuries, the Police said. But Allen’s aunt said her nephew was not confrontational.
“He don’t pick fight. As a boy, he does get into story with people but he don’t pick fight,” she said.
The men were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Allen underwent emergency surgery for two suspected stab wounds but later succumbed.
Parks who was treated and discharged, is in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
