6-Y-O killed, sister critical following accident

The police are investigating a Thursday night accident at Ogle, East Coast Demerarathat claimed the life of a six-year-old boy and leavinghis 17-year-old sister in a critical condition.

The accident occurred at about 18:30 hrs at Ogle Public Road.

News Room learnt that the six-year-old, Sunil Sooknandan, and his sister Denesha Sooknandan were crossing the road on a bicycle when they were struck by a motor car PKK 4834.

Police sources disclosed that the car was being driven by a 56-yea-old woman of Strathspey, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The driver alleged that the 17-year-old cyclist rode into the path of the motorcar.

The impact of the collision left the car’s windscreen shattered and its bonnet and headlights severely damaged.

The siblings were picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where the six-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival.

Denesha was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital in a critical condition and remains a patient.

The driver was tested but no alcohol found in her system. She is presently in police custody while the vehicle was lodged.

Police are continuing their investigations.
