Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley will be arriving in Guyana this week to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Sector Cooperation between the two countries, the Foreign Affairs Ministry noted.
Dr Rowley is scheduled to arrive in Guyana on Wednesday (September 19, 2018).
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Dr Rowley will meet President David Granger to discuss a wide range of matters of interest to both States, including energy sector cooperation, agriculture and security.
Their meeting will be followed by the signing of the MoU, which has triggered controversy in Guyana with the private sector warning government against entering into arrangements that could be detrimental to local interests.
Five Ministers of the Trinidad and Tobago Government are expected to accompany the Prime Minister on his visit.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said this working visit is part of ongoing efforts to foster greater dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Member States.
