Mocha man on rape charge falls ill in lockups, dies

A Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD) welder, who was facing a charge for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl, fell ill in a Georgetown lockup Tuesday and subsequently died.

Stonie Henry, 47, of Lot t 539 Mocha Housing Scheme, EBD was arrested Monday and was scheduled to attend the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today to answer to a charge of rape allegedly committed on the female student.

The rape is alleged to have occurred on May 24, 2017.

Just after dawn today, officers at the East Ruimveldt, Georgetown lockup observed Henry vomiting. When questioned, he complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he died about 08:00 hrs while receiving treatment.

The body of the deceased is presently lying at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
