A 20-year-old East La Penitence, Georgetown resident was on Wednesday remanded to prison for murder.
Matthew Parks appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on September 13, 2018, at Durban and Chapel Streets, Lodge he murdered Roger Allen,23.
Parks was unrepresented and was remanded to prison until October 10.
Relatives of Allen who were in court broke down in tears, while the deceased’s sister questioned Parks on why he killed her brother.
Roger Allen, a labourer, was stabbed to his chest by Parks during an altercation.
According to the police, Allen had visited the Mini Mart where Parks worked earlier in the day in question and the altercation took place later. It is alleged that at about 17:00hrs Parks exited his workplace and was confronted by Allen who was reportedly armed with a piece of wood and a knife.
A scuffle ensued and both men received injuries, the Police said. But Allen’s aunt said her nephew was not confrontational.
“He don’t pick fight. As a boy, he does get into story with people but he don’t pick fight,” she said.
The men were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Allen underwent emergency surgery for two suspected stab wounds but later succumbed.
