A Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD) welder, who fell ill in a Georgetown lockup on Tuesday and subsequently died, reportedly ingested Carbon Tablets.
News Room understands that Stonie Henry, 47, of Lot t 539 Mocha Housing Scheme, EBD, who was facing a charge for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl, reportedly disclosed to other prisoners that he ingested the poisonous substance.
He reportedly informed them: “I wan dead”.
Henry died at the Georgetown Public Hospital at about 08:00hrs on Tuesday –hours after he was rushed to the facility from the East Ruimveldt Outpost where he began vomiting.
Police unearthed a small plastic pack was within the lock-up which is believed to have contained the substance.
The man’s reputed wife told investigators that Henry suffered from depression and anxiety and was a patient at the Psychiatric Department of the GPHC. This claim, News Room confirmed, was substantiated by a letter from the Psychiatrist, Dr. Bhiro Harry.
The man was arrested Monday and was scheduled to attend the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today to answer to a charge of rape allegedly committed on the teen.
