A 25-year-old man has turned himself into the Police after he fled the scene of a fatal accident at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara on Thursday night.

Police said the man, who resides at Tuschen Old Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), surrendered shortly after the vehicle suspected to have been involved in the accident was discovered without registration plates at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo Saturday morning.

The man has since admitted to his involvement in the accident, claiming that the pedestrian (deceased) ran into the path of his vehicle, the Guyana Police Force noted.

Chapil Kumar, 23, was reportedly standing on the southern side of the Uitvlugt Public Road waiting to cross when the motorcar vehicle struck him down.

The vehicle, a Toyota 192 motorcar, is registered to a resident of Parika, EBE and several of its documents were expired. The vehicle is also heavily tinted.

Police say the driver is being processed for court at Leonora on Monday.

Among the charges likely to be instituted are: causing death by dangerous driving; unlicensed motor vehicle; uninsured motor vehicle; tinted motor vehicle; failure to stop after an accident; and failure to render assistance.
