Leguan stelling repair contract awarded for $413 million

The stelling on the Essequibo island of Leguan will be repaired at a cost of $413 million.

The contract was awarded to S. Maraj Contracting Services. The stelling is in a deplorable state and residents have long complained of the risk it poses to life and limb.

The contract was recently awarded by the National Procurement and Tender Administration and given a no-objection by Cabinet.

The award of the contract was announced Monday morning by Cabinet Secretary Joseph Harmon.

Others who bid for the contract were S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services ($540.3 million); BK International ($487 million); Gupta Engineering Services ($428 million); Memorex Enterprise ($432 million); M. Sukhai Contracting Services ($380 million); KP Thomas and Sons Contracting Incorporated ($604.3 million); R Bassoo and Sons Construction Company ($650 million); RoopanRamotar Investments ($416.5 million); and Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited ($440 million).

The engineer’s estimate for the project was $455 million.
