Bus driver charged with rape of woman with disability

A 44-year-old minibus driver was on Friday morning remanded to prison for raping a 21-year-old woman with a disability.

Sherwin Reynolds of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara made his appearance before the Chief Magistrates Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge.

It is alleged that Reynolds on April 19, 2018 at Timehri engaged in sexual penetration with the woman without her consent.

He was represented by attorney Stanley Moore and was remanded to prison until October 10.

According to reports on the day in question, the woman was in Reynolds’ Route 42 minibus, which plies the Timehri/Georgetown route.

When the woman became the only passenger left in the bus, Reynolds drove to a lonely area and raped her.

Once she got home, the woman told her parents what had happened, and the matter was reported to Police.
