East Coast man dies after car slams into utility pole

A fatal accident on the Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara public road has claimed the life of one while another remains in critical condition.

The accident occurred around 02:20hrs today and involved motorcar PPW 676.

Dead is the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Isaiah Corlette of Lot 33 Middle Street, Sparedaam, also on the ECD. Akeisha Jones, 24, of Leopold street ,Werk- en- rust, Georgetown is in a critical condition.

Reports are that the vehicle was proceeding west along the southern carriage of the road at a fast rate when the driver lost control and as a result crashed into a utility pole. As a result of the impact of the crash, both were flung out of the vehicle

They were rushed to GPHC where Corlette was pronounced dead on arrival and the other was treated and admitted in a critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit.

The occupants were said to be returning home after leaving a popular night spot located on the East Coast Railway Embankment where Corlette was celebrating his birthday.

Police Investigations are ongoing.
