29 arrested during ‘Operation Restore Order’

Twenty-nine persons, including a female, were on Sunday morning arrested when 220 police ranks visited Agricola, East Bank Demerara, and North Road, Bourda, Georgetown as part of the Guyana Police Force’s “Operation Restore Order.”

In a statement from the Police headquarters, it was disclosed that the operation began at 04:45hrs and ended at 08:00hrs where the suspects were arrested for various offences, including possession of a firearm component, cocaine and marijuana possession and robbery under Arms.

Two motorcycles, a number of cellular phones and other items suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained, were also found.

The planned Operation will be targeting various areas to decrease the high incidences of criminal activities.

At the end of August 2018, the police reported 37 robberies where no instruments were used, 405 Robbery Under Arms where firearms were used –both increasing from 2017.
