UPDATE: Arson suspected in Enmore fire
Arson is suspected in the Tuesday night’s fire which completely gutted a two-storey building in Enmore.
The wooden and concrete structure went up in flames at around 21:00h, moments after neighbours recalled hearing a loud noise from the direction of the building.
By the time fire tenders arrived, the house, located opposite ‘Gulu’ shop at Newtown, was completely engulfed in flames.
While the cause of the fire could not have been immediately determined, some persons believe it could be the result of an alleged strained relationship between the grandson of the owner of the property and the tenants who recently moved in.
Some residents claimed the owner’s grandson may be responsible for the inferno. The tenants arrived in the midst of the fire, and one of them was heard telling investigators she lost everything.
Luckily, nearby buildings were saved, as the property is bordered by an empty plot of land and a drainage canal.
