Insurance company Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited Thursday launched three initiatives that sees the company going “green.”

The company launched its new website, client portal and document management systems.

“This undoubtedly will reduce our environmental footprint as the company pursues a paperless environment.

“Demerara Mutual is going green and digital. My wish is that this paperless initiative serves as a trailblazer for the rest of the industry and for all of us in Guyana,” said Cathy Hughes, Minister of Public Telecommunications in congratulating the company.

The company said its goal is to reduce the demand for paper, thus leading to the reduction in the cutting of trees for paper production, which obviously helps in retaining forest cover for the sustenance of life on this planet.

Clarence Perry, Marketing Manager, said the three initiatives facilitates easy and faster transactions with the company, through the provision of self-service options for policyholders.

It also facilitates easier access for persons who may wish to do business with the company for the first time, providing them with timely access to information and essential financial services that cater for the needs of individuals, families and corporate clients.

“DM document management system is an automated way of managing files, that will allow us to create, track, index, review, store, manage and share documents digitally while reducing the use of paper.

“This will also enhance transaction time and the security of documents within the company,” Perry added.

The website www.demeraramutual.com  allows policyholders to download forms either to make claims or request policy loans or for a change of beneficiary.

Additionally, persons can request a quote and have their queries dealt with online as an alternative option interfacing with the company other than calling or visiting our offices.

“This will mean less need for persons to use transportation to access our offices, which can now be done virtually,” Perry stated.

The web portal system allows the company’s customers to receive instant notifications and paperless billing statements and check their payment history.

They can also make requests for withdrawals, coverage and address changes.  Queries and comments can also be channelled through this medium.

Minister Hughes, in commending the company on its initiative, assured that the government is ensuring that the landscape is available “so you would be able to build on that.”

“These are exciting times; I congratulate Demerara Mutual on their commitment to going green, on the launch of this new website and its commitment to using less paper, developing more and more ways of better serving your precious policyholders, who we must remember are the backbone of this business,” she stated.

Minister Hughes said she was aware of Demerara Mutual’s reputation for out of the box initiatives and “this is in fact just the latest one.”

“But I challenge you all here to break the ceiling and to ensure that we bring our insurance services to our millennials in Guyana – those under the age of 30,” Hughes declared.
