Alleged chain snatcher remanded

With the assistance of Police Officers, a 25-year-old Carpenter made his way into the courtroom of Magistrate Judy Latchman, charged with armed robbery and the possession of a gun and ammunition.

It is alleged that Treon Douglas on October 1, 2018, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown robbed David Foster of a gold chain valued $140,000 while being armed with a gun.

It is also alleged that on the same day and location, Douglas had a .32 revolver in his possession along with 12 matching rounds of ammunition when he was not a licenced firearm holder.

The Triumph Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident pleaded not guilty to the charges. Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones opposed bail based on the seriousness of the charge and noted that the accused is expected to face further charges soon.

He was remanded to prison until November 2 and was also sent for medical attention since he was crying out of aches and pains about his body in court.

News Room understands that the victim and his friends were at Freeman Street when the accused attacked him and snatched his gold chain.

Douglas was quickly subdued, disarmed and handed over to the Police at the scene.
