Sixteen of the country’s top street football teams are set to invade the Marriott Beach front from October 19-21, when Marlon Jacobs, popularly known as ‘Freedom Boss’ hosts ‘Bragging Rights’; a one of its kind event with a total purse of $500,000.

“The idea is to fuse sports and entertainment and using something that is popular amongst the youths and football fans,” said Jacobs, who is well-known for his creative theme party and other concepts, both locally and overseas.

With Ansa McAl Trading under its STAG Beer Brand, along with the National Sports Commission (NSC) listed as the two main sponsors of the event, Jacobs explained that the concept should not be mistaken for Beach Football because of its location, but rather the same ‘street football’ with all the rules that are usually applied at the other popular tournaments.

“It’s all about being different,” Jacobs added, while pointing out that “sometimes you need to switch things up a bit. I wanted to bring an event that allow the top teams to play each other, but do so at an unusual venue. I think the location is perfect for this type of rivalry that will unfold.”

The likes of Sparta Boss, a team that is notoriously known for being one of, or if not the country’s top streetball side, as well West Front Road and Leopold Street will clash with teams from the ‘West Side’, Berbice and Linden.

The tournament is set to be launched this week, where all details with regards to prize money and the entertainment aspect will be divulged.
