The 25-year-old dog food vendor who was charged for possession of an unlicensed gun, was assaulted just hours after he was remanded to prison.
Prison Director (ag) Gladwin Samuels said the incident occurred around 20:30hrs Friday at the Lusignan Prison Holding Bay.
The prisoner sustained injuries to the head.
“When asked what might have caused such an attack, he was unable to say. According to him, he has no conflict with anyone who is currently incarcerated,” Samuels noted.
The prisoner is currently hospitalized and the matter will be investigated by the police.
The dog food vendor was arrested on Thursday at E Field Sophia after police found that he was in possession of an unlicensed.32 Taurus pistol with 12 live matching rounds.
