A Rural Constable of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan Monday charged with the murder of 15-year-old Ricardo Singh, of Diamond East Bank Demerara.

Tony George, 28, was not required to plea to the indictable offence, which alleged that on July 9, 2018, at the Soesdyke Public Road, he murdered the young man.

His lawyer, Dexter Todd informed the Court that a statement in the police’s file supports George’s story that he acted lawfully as an Enforcement Officer.

Prosecutor, Simone Payne told the Court that on the day in question, the teenager was at a wedding house at Soesdyke with his friends when an altercation occurred.

Singh was arrested by George, who placed him in the tray of the police vehicle but while on the way to the Police Station, it is alleged that the Constable stopped the police van and exited with the teen; he reportedly told the driver to leave.

It is further alleged that the police driver returned and found the teen with a stab wound to the abdomen and George stood looking on in the presence of residents.

He was remanded to prison until October 23.

News Room had reported that the circumstances surrounding the murder of Singh were unclear and his mother had pleaded for justice.

Singh would have celebrated his 16th birthday the same week he died.
