John Fernandes Limited on Tuesday became the first corporate entity to support the second leg of the South American 10K Road Race Classic, which is set to run off on Sunday, November 4 in Georgetown.

The company, which has a rich history in supporting sports and its development in Guyana, expressed delight at having an opportunity to be part of something they deemed as ‘significant’ and also wished the local athletes representing Guyana well.

Aubrey Hutson, president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), which is tasked with ensuring one of South America’s important fixture of distance athletes is properly organised, upon collecting the cheque for an undisclosed sum, lauded John Fernandes Limited for answering their call for support.

According to AAG president, the 16th edition of the South American 10K will coincide with his association’s 70th anniversary, and as such, John Fernandes’ support is seen as timely.

The South American 10K’s second leg will officially be launched on Thursday, where all information pertaining to the event will be given.

The race will be held under the theme ‘run for Guyana gold’, since it will be only athletic meet of its kind in Guyana to offer the winner a real gold medal.
