Bandits caught after armed robbery in Parika

Quick action by Police in ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo) resulted in the arrest of five suspected bandits who had earlier robbed three persons at Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Tuesday night.

The suspects were caught with the stolen items along with two unlicensed weapons and seven live rounds of ammunition.

Police Headquarters revealed that three bandits attacked a female bar owner and two patrons at around 10:20pm and relieved them of a laptop, three cellphones and a sum of cash.

They discharged a round in the car and escaped in motorcar PPP 8242, which Police intercepted at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara with two of the suspects.

Based on further information received, a public transportation vehicle was intercepted at the Western End of the Demerara Harbour Bridge and three other suspects were arrested with the firearms, ammunition, two toques, and the stolen articles.

Another person, suspected to be an accomplice, was also arrested in the said vehicle, police said.

The suspects hail from Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), Kuru Kururu, EBD, Albouystown, and Best Village, WCD.

Police are continuing their investigations.
