GDF ranks charged with rape

Two ranks, attached to the 6 Infantry Battalion of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), have been charged with the rape of a 26-year-old woman on the Essequibo Coast.

Police Headquarters said that 22-year-old Rawlston Reid of Dutch Four Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara and Isaiah Rawlins, 21, of Wisroc, Linden, will appear at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court in Region 2 today.

The two Army Privates are accused of raping the woman on October 13, 2018, in the presence of her boyfriend after allegedly robbing him at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground at around 10:30pm.

Reports indicate that the woman and her male partner were at the ground when the ranks attacked.

It is alleged that the GDF ranks instructed the woman to perform a sexual act on her partner but when she refused, the men allegedly sexually assaulted her.
