Armed intruder shot dead in Vergenoegen

A Security Guard is in police custody after he reportedly shot and killed an alleged bandit Saturday morning at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

Dead is 22-year-old Jarrel Nobel, known as ‘Dumb Boy’ of Tuschen Tiger Bay, EBE.

Police Headquarters said that Nobel received two gunshot wounds and died at around 10am Saturday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to a Police report, the security guard was at the time guarding a Service Station when he observed the suspect in the yard of a poultry farmer at around 4:30am; the owner of the poultry farm also saw him on the CCTV camera.

It is alleged that when the guard approached, Nobel attacked him with a knife and the guard discharged two rounds from a licensed shotgun.

Prior to the shooting, the Police were contacted; ranks arrived and took the injured Nobel to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and he was subsequently transferred to the GPHC.

Police Headquarters said that Nobel was previously charged with break and enter and larceny.
