(CNC3 Trinidad and Tobago) While residents in South Trinidad breathed a sigh of relief as the rains held up earlier today to allow for clean-up operations, it was a different story for a Moruga family whose home collapsed last night.

Earl Teesdale, 65, his wife Beverley, son and grandson had to crawl out of their home in St Mary’s Village.

Teesdale told Guardian Media that flood waters saturated the wooden pillars that supported his house after two days of persistent rainfall. Around 7.30 pm, the pillars broke, sending his family tumbling around and the house crashing to the ground.

Luckily, no one was injured but his family now needs a place to stay. He said the three-bedroom house is now beyond repair and needs to be rebuilt.
