Three killed after diesel laden truck topples

Three persons were killed on Saturday after a truck (GWW 4811) with 44 drums of diesel developed mechanical problems while driving up a hill at Kumung Kumung Trail, Puruni River and toppled twice down the hill.

Those dead are 24-uear-old Clifford Anthony Bhim, a porter of Itaballi Landing; David Choi-Weenam, 52, a miner of Four Miles, Bartica and 39-year-old Jude James,  a miner of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

Surviving the horrific accident and hospitalized are the driver – 29-year-old Ravi Dookram of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara and his stepson, 18-year-old Steve Carr.

Police Headquarters said that the driver had to be medevacked to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

At the time of the accident, the driver along with two of the men was inside the cabin, while two others were inside the tray of the truck.

Police have since launched an investigation into the accident.
