A 49-year-old coconut vendor who plies his trade at the Bourda Market has alleged that he was attacked by two gunmen in the wee hours of Sunday at the corner of Robb Street and Orange Walk.

John McKenzie of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, told Police that he was sitting outside his stall when the gunmen took away his two gold chains valued at $167,000 and $32,000 in cash at around 01:15hrs.

He said the bandits escaped in a silver gray car, which was parked several feet away.

Police are slated to review CCTV footage. News Room understands that the vendor decided to report the robbery after he recognized one of the perpetrators to be the same person who was shot on Sunday morning at the Bourda market during an alleged robbery.

Police are continuing their investigations.
