A 35-year-old labourer was sentenced to serve one year in prison on Wednesday for breaking into a North Road, Georgetown store and stealing several items.

The Court heard that between April 30 and May 1, 2018, Seon Burke broke and entered the store of Nigel Pile and stole 24 chairs worth $600,000, one mattress worth $85,000 and one air-conditioning unit worth $185,000.

Burke had initially denied the allegations but changed his plea to guilty when he appeared before City Magistrate, Anneth Singh.

The court heard that Pile operates a rental service and secured his business place, however, when he returned the next day, he observed the store broken into and the items missing.

Burke was arrested following Police investigations.
