Three teens among those charged in murder of Mon Repos man

Four persons, including three teenagers, were on Friday charged for last weekend’s murder of 30-year-old Christopher Swamy of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

Those charged are Osafo Douglas, 19; Rafael Hannif, 19; Vikash Persaud, 18; and Jessie Knight, 33.

They appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally- Seepaul at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

The three teenagers were charged jointly while Knight was charged separately.

The teenagers and Knight told the court that they were forced and beaten into signing confession statements by the Police.

The Magistrate remanded the men to prison until December 12, 2018.

According to a Police report, at 01:30hrs Sunday last, Swamy, his wife, sister-in-law along with 28-year-old Rawle Williams and his wife, Marica were liming and imbibing in front their Mon Repos home when they were attacked by two masked bandits, one of whom was armed with a gun.

It is alleged that the suspects relieved Marica of her cell phone and cash, beat Rawle to the head and then shot Swamy in the left region of his chest.

The bandits fled the scene and Swamy and Rawle were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Swamy was pronounced dead on arrival.
