Bandits terrorize Corentyne businessman; escape with gun, cash

A 60-year-old Cattle and Rice Farmer of Lot 15, Number 65 Village, Corentyne was beaten by two bandits who attacked him and his wife on Friday evening.

News Room understands that the masked gunmen pounced on Thirbenny Ramnauth called “Reds” and his wife at about 18:45 hrs while they were sitting on the porch.

The gunmen ordered the couple into the house and forced them to hand over their cash and valuables.

During the ordeal, the businessman was beaten about his body and gun-butted.

News Room understands that the gunmen tied up the businessman and placed him on to lie on the ground as they took the wife to search for more valuables.

Reports indicate that the gunmen carted off with a 12 gauge shotgun and 12 live cartilages, 3 cellphones, $300,000 cash and over US$ 2500 along with a quantity of jewelry and three bottles of whiskey.

Ramnauth was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was admitted but the family opted to take the injured man for further treatment on Saturday morning at a Private Hospital in the City.

His condition is listed as stable.

The Police have since launched an investigation.
