After some 15 days on the run, prison escapee, Dextroy Pollard was today recaptured at Free & Easy Village on the West Bank of Demerara by a resident and promptly handed over to the police at Wales Police Station.

Police Headquarters said that the Guyana Police Force wishes to publicly commend the individual for his brave and courageous action.

According to the Force, this is testimony that the Force is gaining the public’s trust; and encourages others to assist in the apprehension of those still at large.

Pollard was among three prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay, East Coast Demerara at around 04:30hrs on October 15.

Pollard, of Wales, was on remand for Break and Enter and Larceny.

Travis Evans of ‘C’ Field Sophia, who was on remand for murder, was recaptured by Joint Services Ranks at the Linden Soesdyke junction on October 19.

Still at large is 23-year-old Sudesh Dyal of Wales Backdam, who was remanded on charges of break and enter and larceny and escaping from custody.

Prison Director (ag), Gladwin Samuels had concluded that the guards were most likely asleep, giving the three prisoners enough time to cut a path through the razor wire atop the Lusignan Prison fence and escape the facility before dawn.

They were being kept in a holding bay of the prison; this area was created to keep prisoners from the Camp Street prison when it was burned down in July last year.
