A suspected bandit was on Thursday shot and killed by the Police after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his 212 motor car and personal items in 7th Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and abducted a Farmer in Mahaicony.

Police reported that 27- year- old Melroy “Souce Mouth” Solomon of Titus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD) along with an accomplice escaped with the car which they hired at about 10:50hrs.

A report was made and the car was intercepted by police ranks in an unmarked vehicle at Mahaicony, ECD.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the suspects discharged several rounds which struck the police’s vehicle and sped into the village of Esau & Jacob but were later forced to abandon the vehicle after it got stuck in a ditch.

The suspects reportedly escaped into the backlands where they robbed a cattle farmer of his phone and clothes before ordering him to transport them from the area to a location at Branch Road, Mahaicony on a horse.
Police said the cattle farmer complied.

The suspects then reportedly joined a taxi but were again intercepted by police ranks who ordered them out of the vehicle.

One of the men, who was later identified as Solomon, quickly exited with a firearm drawn and began shooting at the police who “adapted tactical positions” and returned fire.

The suspect was shot and the car sped away, leaving him at the scene.

He was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Solomon is said to have been previously charged with armed robbery.
An unlicensed.32 semi-automatic pistol with four live rounds and two spent shells were recovered at the scene.

Police are on the hunt for the accomplice.
