Murder accused, Prison Officer stabbed at Timehri prison
A prisoner and a Prison Officer are currently nursing stab wounds after being stabbed by another prisoner at the Timehri Prison on Saturday morning.
According to Director of Prisons (ag), Gladwin Samuels, at about 08:55 hrs, during morning routine procedure, the murder accused was stabbed with an improvised weapon by a convicted murderer at the penitentiary.
The murder accused received eight stab wounds about his body and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
Prison officers attempted to stop the incident and during the process, one of the officers received two stab wounds to his arm and temple.
The Prison Service Director said based on information received from the Officer in Charge of the Prison, the murder accused, who sustained injuries, made threats to the life of a prison officer on Friday and also disturbed the rest of other prisoners by kicking against a steel door on Friday night.
The matter will be investigated by both police and prison officers, Samuels said.
