Ganja farms destroyed, cops come under fire as suspects on the run

Police have destroyed approximately eight acres of cultivated cannabis with about 7,600 plants, ranging in height from 5 inches to 6 feet along with 82 kilograms of processed cannabis over the past week.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, ranks in ‘B’ and ‘G’ Divisions conducted two drug eradication exercises at Kimbia, Berbice River on October 31 and OOnderneeming, Essequibo Coast on November 02.

During the exercises, the plants, dried cannabis and six makeshift camps on the cultivations were destroyed by fire.

The plants altogether had an average weight of 15,025 kilograms.

The suspects, who were at the scene in Kimbia discharged several rounds at police ranks and escaped in the thick vegetation, leaving behind 20 live cartridges.

The cartridges were lodged while investigators are making stringent efforts to apprehend the suspects.
