Ex-cop jailed for life for rape of toddler
A 53-year-old former Policeman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a 3-year-old girl in 2016.
Deon Aaron was found guilty last month by a 12-member jury for engaging in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16 on March 14, 2016, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
Aaron is represented by Attorneys-at-law Madan Kissoon and Maxwell McKay.
Prosecutors Abigail Gibbs, Seeta Bishundial and Tiffin Lyken represented the State.
Justice Jo-Ann Barlow on Thursday imposed a life sentence on Aaron following a probation hearing at the High Court.
According to the victim impact statement, the victim reportedly said: “What Aaron did makes me sad… Aaron is a bad man… Aaron hurt me and made me cry and God will sin him for that.”
The probation report disclosed that Aaron began working at 18 years old and was a former member of the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force. He was also employed as a Security Officer.
Arron maintained in his innocence and will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.
Aaron was tasked with taking care of the toddler by her mother, who later found out that the man penetrated her with his finger.
The matter was reported and an investigation commenced.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested and charged for the offence.
