Corporal shot by Venezuelan gang

A Police Corporal is in a serious condition after he was shot to the lower back by a group of Venezuelans on Tuesday.

According to the Guyana Police Force, Corporal Quincy Alexander along with six other passengers were travelling in a wooden vessel from Eteringbang to Macapa, in the Cuyuni River when they were fired upon by a group of armed men standing on the Venezuelans side of the border.

The incident occurred about 12:00hrs, in the vicinity of Butanuamu Creek Point.

Alexander, 38, of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden was struck by a bullet in his lower back.

The Corporal who is stationed at the Eteringbang Police Station and attached to Macapa Base, is being transported to Georgetown.

His condition is regarded as serious but stable, the police said.

An investigation has since been launched.
