Even before the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) announced the official results, PPP/C General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo has declared his party the winner in several constituencies.

Among those are five of the ten townships in the country, with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) winning the remaining half.

The PPP/C won the majority of the seats at Mabaruma, Anna Regina, Lethem, and Rose Hall, and won all of the seats at Corriverton, Jagdeo said.

On the other hand, unofficial results show that the APNU took control of the townships of Linden, Bartica, New Amsterdam, Mahdia and Georgetown.

“This was a massive win for the PPP … we practically doubled the margin from 24,000 votes or so to maybe 46,000 something votes,” the General Secretary said.

Jagdeo boasted that the PPP/C performed exceptionally well despite robust campaigning by the Government in certain areas and attempts to “gerrymander” the boundaries.

“We crushed them in Mabaruma in spite of all the goodies and the several visits made by these ministers,” Jagdeo stated.

The Party also made gains in Georgetown, winning seven seats, compared to the two which they won in 2016.

He also claimed victory in other areas known as PNC strongholds, such as the Buxton/Foulis Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).

Jagdeo said the PPP/C will continue to target APNU supporters as the country heads into general elections.
