Silver medal for Ramdhani at King’s University tournament

Guyanese Narayan Ramdhani won silver in the Men’s Doubles and reached the semi-finals in the Mixed Doubles when he played in his first tournament in Alberta, Canada, representing The King’s University.

The Open Doubles and Mixed Doubles tournament attracted players from around Alberta and was played off last weekend at the King’s University Badminton Courts.

In the Open Men’s Doubles in a Draw of 64, Ramdhani and his partner Joel Simrose were seeded number two and got a bye in the first round.

In the second round, they defeated Jacky Chung and Stewart Tieu 21-10, 21-16, followed by victory against Anshuma Sharma and Rohan Sharma 21-18, 21-18 in round three.

The duo then defeated Sony Augustine and Jiju Kiliyankand 21-19, 21-10 in the quarter-finals, before getting past Kartil Gohil and Harpeet Singh 21-11, 21-16 in the semi-finals.

In the final, Ramdhani and Simrose lost to the number one seeded pair Kevin Chow and Alex Fung: 21-17, 21-18.

In the Open Mixed Doubles in a Draw of 32, Ramdhani and his partner Angelica Alberto were also seeded number two and got a bye in the first round.

They proceeded to defeat Se Jun Sunwoo and Nicole Ramos 21-12, 21-9 in the second round, and Wenlong Huang and Zixin Jiao 21-17, 21-15 in the quarter-finals.

They however, suffered a 21-17, 21-15 loss to number three seed Kevin Chow and Tina Wasilik in the semi-finals.
