GT BEER FOOTBALL: GT Police through after tough first round

Defending champions Police (Georgetown) advanced to the next round after a tough first round encounter against Wolves in the latest matches of the GT Beer/BFA/Candy Boss/Antics Promotions 8-a-side Invitational knockout football Sunday evening at the All Saints Presbyterian Church ground in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

The Cops edged out Wolves United in a sudden death penalty shootout after the two teams were locked 1-1 after regulation time. Deon Rodney sent Police into the lead in the 14th minute, but Kwesi Blue scored the equaliser for Wolves in the 28th minute.

Cougars Twenties brushed aside Edinburgh 2-0 with Dwayne Alleyne and Shaqualle George netting on the 23rd and 39th minutes of play.

The tournament continues this weekend with four more matches at the same venue.

On Friday evening, Orealla Falcons will square off with Monderelust FC in the first match at 19:00h, while Hopetown will clash with Siparuta FC at 20:30h.

On Sunday, Mahaicony FC will face off with Golden Stars at 19:00h, while Cougars ‘B’ will oppose Soccer City in the feature clash.

Wolves United and Edinburgh have now joined Fyrish Sharks and Corentyne All Stars as eliminated teams.

Teams from Berbice, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara are battling for supremacy and a chance to win cash prizes and trophies in excess of $1.2 million.

Matches will be played every Friday and Sunday until the grand final on January 5, 2019, at the same venue.
