Father, son remanded on $2.2M drug charge

A North Ruimveldt, Georgetown father and son appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, accused of trafficking $2.2M worth of cannabis.

Quincy Charles, 28 and his 53-year-old father, Orwin Battlefield, both pleaded not guilty to the joint charge which alleged that on November 19, 2018, at North Ruimveldt they had 4.500 kilograms of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

They were represented by Attorney Mark Waldron, who was unsuccessful in convincing the Magistrate to grant bail.

Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield informed the court that police searched the house and found a plastic bucket with the cannabis inside.

The Prosecutor revealed that Charles admitted at the time that the drugs were his.

The father and son were remanded until December 10, 2018.
