Tourism Bodies planning ‘Resort Week’

Tourism organisations are planning a ‘Resort Week’ – an opportunity for locals as well as foreigners to visit some of the finest nature resorts in the country at reduced prices.

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) have teamed up to launch the initiative in time for the holidays.

The initiative is envisioned to follow a similar model of ‘Restaurant Week’, where there is a fixed price to visit any of the resorts that will come onboard.

It is still in its planning stages and organisers have so far convinced two resorts to join the initiative, THAG President Mitra Ramkumar said.

This initiative is one of several which the GTA and THAG will be launching following their formal partnership.

Though the two bodies have been collaborating throughout the years, they only officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding Thursday morning at the OMG Restaurant, Sheriff Street.

The document was signed by Ramkumar on behalf of THAG, and Brian Mullis on behalf of the GTA.

This MoU outlines how the two agencies, one government led and the other private sector led, can work together to promote Guyana as a tourist destination.
