A serving member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and a cosmetologist were on Friday arraigned before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Providence Magistrate’s Court for trafficking cannabis.

Jammal Eastman, 24, and Niketa Bishop, 30, both of Lot 1212 Diamond Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on November 21, 2018, the defendants had 380 grams of cannabis at their home for the purpose of trafficking.

The duo was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSliva, who in his successful bail application, said that the drugs was not found on his clients’ possession.

He explained to the court that the suspected cannabis was found in a building which Bishop rents as a shop.

DaSliva argued that the shop is also accessible to other persons and the public.

They were released on $100,000 bail each and are expected to reappear in court on December 17, 2018.
